World Food Day is celebrated internationally on October 16 by countries and stakeholders to raise awareness and take action against global hunger and malnutrition. Papua New Guinea has been part of the global community in observing this important day through an array of activities, programs and collaborations over the years across the country. The 2024 World Food Day celebrations were centered around the theme, Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future. Though small, this year’s main event for PNG was observed at the Central Government Office in Port Moresby, within the Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL) headquarters and Country Office of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO).
The following were press releases made by DAL and FAO; click on the images to access the full statements.
The World Food Day was also commemorated in other parts of PNG in different ways by institutions, state agencies, schools, civil society and farmers. Check on this link for the World Food Day Supplement in The National newspaper, which also has these press releases published for the wider audience.
