Papua New Guinea has a national E-Agriculture Strategy (2017-2023) for the agriculture sector.
The strategy is aimed at harnessing the ICT potential of the country in achieving the agriculture goals and further strengthening the role of ICTs in accelerating the growth of the agriculture sector in a sustainable and equitable manner.
This strategic framework was developed with the use of the PNG Vision 2050 (2010-2050), PNG Development Strategic Plan (2010 – 2030), National Agriculture Development Plan (2007-2016), National Broadband Policy (2013) and other sectoral policies as guiding frameworks.
The strategy’s mission is: “The Papua New Guinea agriculture sector transformed by innovative information and communication technologies, by 2023”.
It was developed through a consultative process involving the Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL), National Information and Communication Technology Authority (NICTA), Department of Communication and Information, Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, International Telecommunication Union of the United Nations, and other stakeholders including key agencies in the agriculture, natural resource and ICT sectors.
